FOR CANTERBURY THE CANAL SCHEME. Per Press Association. Christehurch, List Niglit. The report, of Messrs. Coode, Son, and Matthews on the question of extended harbor facililies for Canterbury was laid on the table at the meeting of the l.yttelton Harbor Board to-day. The report discusses existing facilities and local conditions in detail, and then follows tliu engineer's recommendations, in the course of wlvich Messr.s. Coode, Son, and Matthews favor additional harbor works at Lyttelton to the construction of a' canal between the city and Sumner. The cost of the t.ollan s Bay scheme is estimated at £055,500, and .C 1,025,000 for the canal scheme, with the dock at Ucathcote. The report was referred to the Harbor Board's engineer. with a view- to a Hording luui an opportunity of explaining the difference between his estimates and those of Messrs. Coode, Son, and Matthews.
