At the TarcuuUi Comity Council meeting yesterday Councillor Adlam was given leave lo hold over till (lie next meeting bin motion to rescind the resolution authorising the grant of .U'itii) to the Carrington. Kiiot, and l ; rankloy Road Boards. Tiiis brought up the i:>n of th* new county proposals, by which the three above-mentioned road district* would endeavor to form their combined area into a new county, with a view of i scouring greater ellieieney at less cent, of administration. thn Council shnuM dcriclo wlr.C course it was proposed to adopt wiihh regard . to this now couniy scheme. He said lit' , Is.kl mil. seen tlu> Hill or th" pmpowd \ boundaries, lint he understood the now ' county, if fennel, would practically cut . tlio faranaki County in two. lie bad heard <omc talk of the inclusion of the Mangoroi rami district. But what concerned the Council now was whether J or not they would oppose the scheme. Councillor Andrews thought there was no necessity to take any action until the boundaries were disclosed. The chairman said it might Ik- necessary to take some action before next meeting. If the Bill went down to the House it meant that some ropresentatire of this Council must go to Wellington to give evidence before the Local Bills Committee. His own opinion was that the Bill might, go through unless the Counlv Council opposed it. but that opposition' would kill it. The formation of the new county as proposed would mean the loss of some .C7WI or CBIIII from the revenue of the Oniata riding. Besides, the county would be cut about in nu awkward fashion. He had thought that these road district* could have got, the relief they wanted by forming themselves into a new riding of the present counlv. lie knew nothing aboul the ' Itroator New Plymouth scheme. But he thought the new riding would be a h-s | expensive and eipially satisfactory change. . 1 Councillor (ieorge thought they might as well have a new county as a new riding. There were long road* there lo maintain— Councillor Hill: They're in a lug revenue-producing district. , Councillor (leorge: Yes. hut they'll take it all for their own roads. Councillor Tate favored the new rutin" scheme as one that should commend itself to the ratepayers conccnicd. particularly on account of the great saving of administrative expends. This propo-al to secede was of grave importance to thc.iaranaki County, which would lie so divided as to render it diflioult to work. He took it that this Council would have to object, for they had to consider the interests of their ratepayers as a whole, and this scheme would not give such a benefit. He admitted that these road district* were entitled to consideration, perhaps more than thev had received in the past. He thought ' too. that the County Council 1 mb'ht very well have been asked to send a delegate to the ratepayer-' meeting. The'chairman said he had not been ' »•*»■<!• ■„ n 1 Cpon the motion of Councillors llop- , snu and Tate, it was unanimously dc--1 cided to authorise the chairman to take any steps necessary iu opposing the . measure.
