Returns of the value of grass seed supplied to settlers by the Government, as a result of tihe serious bush' fires early in the year, show that the amount expended was over £25,000. Details are:—Auckland, 201 settlere supplied with seed to the value of £7837*3 Eawke'a Bay, .8 settlers, J£J33; Taranaki, 102 settlers, £1515; Wellington, 319 settlers, £13,223; Nelson, 44 settlers, £1023; Marlborough, 21 settlers, £1681; Southland, one settler, £l7 10s. The value of seed sown on Crown lands was £4349. "Of this Auckland absorbed i£496, Hawkes' Bay £1254, Taranaki £4O, Wellington £578, Nelson £440, and Marlborough [£ll3B.
