WELLINGTON PATENT SLIP
Wellington, Lust Night. Another round in the protracted contest about the Wellington patent slip was fought yesterday afternoon. Sir ■las. .Mills (managing director of the I "ion Steamship Co., which secured the I controlling interest in the business some time ago). .Mr. Kennedy (the Cuiou C'o.'s local manager), Mr, (1. IJeauchanip (<-liaiiiiiiiii of directors of the Patent Slip Company) and Jlr. Duncan met the Ilou. T. K. .UacDonald and oilier members of the committee appointed by the Harbor Hoard. The result was that a definite offer was niade to the Harbor Hoard, and this will be considered at a meeting on Saturday. After the close of the hist conference it was understood that tho Union Co. would be agreeable to surrender its interests to the Board at a figure not greatly above the price which the company paid for its shares, provided it could secure sufficient ground and other facilities for the expansion of its business. Tho Union Co. hopes to get territory where it may establish repairing shops and conveniences loi the handling of coal in large (juantiI'es, an up-to-date laundry, and other tilings required in connection with its rapidly-expanding business.
