A conference ivitli reference to tin' tramway strike was held this between the Mayor (Mr. Myers), Mr. Trcgear, ,\lr. Walklate, and Air. Rosser, ill'. Trcgear stated tlmt lie had been in consultation witli Hie Minister nf Labor, and pointed out that the Conciliation Amendment Act, clause 52, made provision for such a crisis as had arisen by the appointment of a special Board of Conciliation composed of two experts from each side, with a chairman elected by agreement, or, failing that, appointed by the Covevmncnt. One of the conditions was that the men must resume work at once. Uotli sides must abide by the decision of the Court, which must be regarded as linal. This was the course followed in the recent slaughtermen's strike.

Mi. \\ alklate promised to consider I this proposal. Mr. Rosser and Mr. Trcgear then laid the proposal before a meeting of the Tramway Union, at which Mr. Trcgear also explained, regarding the case of Hcrdson, the conductor, who was dismissed without notice, that he had authority froiu Wellington to proceed against the Tramway Company if he chose. He did not, however, wish to bring the law into operation if the whole dispute could be disposal of by a special Board of Conciliation.

Both sides agreed to refer the matters ill dispute to a special Board of Arbitrators.

The services will be resumed inlinediatelv.

Auckland, Last Night. Ihe tramway strike came to an end to-day, and the service was resumed at 4 o'clock.

At the afternoon conference, after an address by Mr. Trcgear, the following motion was submitted and carried.— (1) 'that this Union agrees to the provision contained in clauses 51 and 52 of the Act of 1 , referring to the Board of Coneili;ition;

(2) That the Union agrees to the uppointment of two members to a Board of Conciliation with full power to act in that enj!!ieity and to consider the mutter in dispute; (•!) That the Union in willing to accept the finding of such a Board „ s ii nu |, providing the company do likewise; (I) 'Jhat as soon as a guarantee is gn en in writing by both parties the service will be resumed.

Subsequently Mr. Walklale attended tlir lneetinir, and on behalf uf tho compuny agreed to the e terms, both parties signing a bond agreeing to abide by the decision'bf the Board.
