xkw Zealand association. Per Proas Association. Wellington, Last Xiglit. T!n.' annual meeting of the Xmv Zealand Chess Association was held tonight. J.lie report showed there are now 14 chilis affiliated to the Association, which lias a balance in hand of £l4 The congress secretary thought the recent annual congress was too long, a lot of slackness in play being noticeable ill the closing rounds. The following officers were elected:—President, Dr. I'itcliett (Wellington); vice-presidents, Messrs. 11. JI. Lund, V. Kay, and 11. J. Nightingale (northern division .South Island); Archdeacon Gould, Sir. A. Pi. Harclay, 31.P., and Rev. A. T. Cliodowski (southern division); Messrs K W Petherick, J<\ W. 11. kumiuer, and A*. J. Littlcjohn (southern division Xortli Island); Mr. Alfred Uoskings, ltev. A. Miller ami president of the Auckland Working Men's Clubfnorthcrn division); Mr. W. Maelcay; secretary, Mr A. Cr. I'ell. After some discussion on the cash or trophy question, it was decided to leave matters as before, so that winners may still have the option of taking their prizes ill money or trophies, It was decided to hold the next congress at Munedin at Christmas.
