RAID ON CHINESE. Per Press Association. Feilding, Last Night. The premises of a local Chinese humdryman were raided by the police last night, who found fourteen Chinese present playing a game alleged to be fantan. Prosecutions are to follow.
SHIPMENT OK Iit'LLIOX. Auckland, Last Night. The steamer Wiimncra, which sailed for Sydney to-night, is carrying a valuable freight across the Ta.sman Sea. Sue has ten boxes of bold bars, valued at £40.000. from- the South, while her Auckland shipments are also considerable, consisting of 25 bars of silver from the Waihi Cold Mining Company, and IS bars of bullion from the National Jktnk.

The nfflml opening was performed by Mrs Williams. The building, with extras, cost about; £14,000. About C2OOO is now required for furnishing. There are forty I>edi rooms in the building. MAGISTRATE'S COURT. Napier, Last Xight. \t the Magistrate's Court to-day Clarence Prior Home was charged with having committed perjury in evidence given by him in the Magistrate's Court; at Napier on January 2Srd during the prosecution of Martin Johnston for arson by stating that Johnson had told him the night after the five that he had lost a valuable gold watch in the fire. Mr McCarthy, S.M., held that there was not sufficient evidence upon which to commit. Home for trial and dism'ssed the information.
CONCILIATION BOARD. Napier, Last Night. After hearing the evidence of the employees and employers here to-day ill the tailors' dispute, the Conciliation Board adjourned to sit at Masterton on 21st inst'. The employers who gave evidence to-day attended upon subpoenas.
SATURDAY CLOSING. Nelson, Last Night A meeting of the Retailers' Association, held to-night, repudiated statements that the Association had written to Wfllingon asking for' support in defying the law regarding Saturday closing. It was stated that whatever action had been taken was the act of individuals and had not the sanction of the Association.
