SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
TIIEJU DJSAMUTIEN. Per Press Association. Nelson, Last Night. At a meeting of tin? town school committee this evening, the [lev. .MacKenzie (chairman) gave notice to move as follows:—"Whereas under the Education Act the election of members of boards [ is in the hands of country committees in altogether undue preponderate, and whereas by recent decision of the Appeal Court the boards have not only general supervision but particular control over school management and committees arc made no more than caretakers, this committee hereby resolves —(1) That in the best interests of education it is expedient that the management of t-hc respective educational affairs of the town and the country districts should be separated in a manner corresponding to that in which the general affairs are managed by town councils and country councils, and that town committees should he given the powers now vested in boards; (2) that local Parliamentary candidates be questioned on this subject; (Ji) that other town committees of the Dominion be circularised on the matters and their assistance asked in connection with j their candidates.
