The executive of the United Irish League issued a manifesto condemning Catholics who support Unionist candidates in the interests ot Catholic sciiools, thereby abandoning the cause ot Ireland. * In connection with the Wolvcr-1 hanipton election, it was slated that the Catholic Bishop of Birmingham supported the Unionist candidate on account ol the Government's -Education Bill, and i that the English Catholics voted tor him. On the other hand, tne Irish Catholics voted for the Liberal candidate (who won by eight votes) because the Home Rule organisations were satisfied with Mr. Churchill's assurance as to the Government's attitude to Home Rule.
