COPPER THIEVING.
AN ORGANISED SYSTEM. Per Prees Assoeiat'ou Diinedin, Saturday Night. At tlie Juvenile Court to-day, two boys were charged with the theft of seven copper boilers from various places in South Diinedin and St. Kilda. Tin', accused pleaded guilty, and on the application of the police they were remanded until the 20tli inst.. in view of proceedings against second-hand dealers for receiving the boilers, knowing them to have been stolen.
Subsequently, in the ordinary Court, Robert Wells', a marine store dealer, was charged with receiving four ol the boilers. Chief Detective Herbert said it would he proved that this man went round to houses and located boilers in accessible places, and then sent small children to steal them, giving them a, trille to do it. lie afterwards smashed up the boilers to destroy their ulentity. . August Erickson was similarly chargi ed. Chief Detective Herbert said that this man, a licensed dealer in a somewhat larger way, purchased boilers at a higher price than Wells gave, thus diverting the business to himself. Both accused were remanded to the 20th inst.
