FIRES.
FIKE AT AUCKLAND. Per Press Association. Auckland, Wednesday. Last night a two-storeyed house in Stanley street, owned by A. M. Myers, and occupied by A. Lewis, was gutted ' and the contents totally destroyed. The .' family escaped in night attire by way of '• the verandah roof, the lower storey be- i ing ablaze when the outbreak was disi covered. It was caused by clothes left I before the kitchen tire becoming ignitlej. Auckland, Last Night. The limiSu gutted by fire in Stan'" si reel this pnnrning was insured for ;C3OO in tlio New Zealand office. The furniture was insured in the Victoria otlice for £l5O. HOUSE DESTROYED AT SPOTSWOOD
A lire occurred at Spotswood Settlement last evening whereby the six-room- j ed residence of Air. Lovegrovc, house painter, was burnt to the ground. Some of the furniture was Saved. The cause of the fire was the explosion of a lamp. The west end iirebell sounded n sjlorl alarm, but as the lire was too far away the brigade could not render any assistance. I'ariiculars as to insurance were unavailable last night.
