UNITY OF THE CHURCHES.
A MODERATOR'S VIEWS. Melbourne. May IS. The Rev. Mr. Weir. Hie new Moderator of the Presbyterian .Wml.ly. dealing with the question of Church I'nion. -..id one of the princi|itil hindrnmi's to niion was the existence of two divergent types of Christian life, the emotional and the contemplative. The emotional type dominated the Methodists and the contemplative the Presbyterians. T!ie two could only be fused under considerable pressure. Mr. Weir added: "As to the Church oi England, we can see no immediate j-.ospects of Union with that branch of lie Church. As a Church we can scarceI. expert that clergymen who believe I'iey have priestly power would join \i ith those who put their cherished tenets on a par with the belief in witch- < raft or alchemy.'" He believed that to obtain even partial union no sacrifice except that of i-'iiscientions principles was too great.
