A TRAGIC INCIDENT.
A GANG OF SMUGGLERS. TROOPS FIRE ON EACH OTHER. A TERRIBLE CONFLICT. Lisbon, May 12. A gang of smugglers, while taking tobacco from Spanish territory into Porta Legre district (Portugal) at midnight. met the Portuguese guards. During the fight which ensued some Spanish troops who were in pursuit of the smugglers crossed he frontier and were mistaken for a second aaa* of smugglers. - •-e * A terrible conflict ensued, and coating ed until the error was discovered The smugglers fled to the mountains leaving several dead, including two wofceveral soldiers on either side were, wounded and killed.
