THE TUAPEKA SEAT. Per Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. Mr Jas. Horn, of Bannockburn, to-day announced himself us a candidate for tile Tuapeka seat. This is interpreted to mean that lie has been selected as the liovei iiincut candidate. DR. CIIAPPLE'S ADDRESS. Lawrence, Last Night. Dr. M. A. C'liapple, a candidate for the Tuapeka seat, addressed a large gathering of electors at Lawrence- tonight. He said that lie had been born and bred at Alexandra, nnd had long cherished an ambition to represent in Parliament that home lie loved so well. Mining was us vet in its infancy, and was capable of great development under scientific treatment. An experimental farm would be advantageous here. It had proved so elsewhere, and new railways in the hands of a Government were the iron pioneers that opened up country, and the Roxburgh-Lawrence railway should lie pushed on rapidly. The growing necessity for u supply of cheap fruit made it a State question. Industrial interests were languishing for the want of population, but the right kind of people must be procured, the farming community for preference. He was in favor of the Arbitration Act, but deemed Conciliation Boards unnecessary. Mr. Massev had said that there were Six Socialists in the Ministry, but there was not even one. The Socialism practised fostered .State enterprise along lines impossible to private enterprise. He rejoiced to lind in the Ward administration an honest endeavor to promote tile welfare of the country, lie appealed to them as a youiig New Zealander, and us one who would tight in the great future in the distance, and for the good he could do them. Dr. Chappie answered u number of ijuestions and was accorded a vote of thanks.

THE I'ATEA SEAT. Hawera, Last Night. At a meeting of the Opposition party t)0-day, Mr J. Driver, of Wanganui, was chosen as the Party's candidate to contest the I'atea seat.
