Perth, May 4. It is estimated that the number drowned in the pearling fleet, disaster was about 100—six whites and about 100 colored. Forty luggers and three schooners were lost. The damage is valued at £40,000. One pearler, a Japanese, wag found after having been five days tn the water. A Malay was picked up after having spent three days clinging to a deckhouse. This was at Geoffrey Bay, where most of the luggers were sheltering when the hurricane burst in its fury. The storm snapped the anchor chains and the boats crashed into one another. There was fearful confusion. Many boats were smashed up. An eyewitness describes the screams and cries of the men as awful.
