SHIPBUILDING STRIKE.
EMPLOYERS REFUSE TO ARBITRATE. 80,000 WORKMEN AFFECTED. Received 20th, 4.30 p.m. London, April 25. ' The shipyard employee* balloted on the question of accepting a reduction of la (id a week in wages, or submitting the matter to arbitration, and.tile establishment of conciliation boards to which the Federated Employers still objected. The ballot, by two to one, resulted in favor of the second alternative. The employers have decided to adhere to their ultimatum, insisting that the shipwrights on strike should accept the rate paid on the Clyde, and decided to serve notices of dismissal on the men. The lock-out affects 80,000 shipwrights, joiners, drillers, woodcutting machinists, and others in shipbuilding yards on the northern and west coasts.
