He complained bitterly of the Imperial veto on the South Australian Bill refusing mining bases to Asiatics. The Liberal Government had no right to that connection to ask an Australian Government to substitute aliens for Asiatics, since colonists did not desire to exclude Europeans. Though South Australia had been described as insignificant, the State nevertheless meant to insist on its rights.
