AMERICAN FLEET'S VISIT.
Per l'rcs3 Association. Auckland, Last Night. The lion. Dr. Findlay, Attorney-dcn-eral, expressed the opinion to a Herald reporter that Rolorua, from whence he has just tome, ought to he made one of Hie features in connection with the forthcoming visit of the American fleet to Auckland. "Speaking selfishly,' the
Minister remarked, "one can scarcely conceive a better advertising medium than to impress the officers and men of the fleet of the wonders of our thermal regions. America is very much ncare' than England, and the stream of visitors from the United States should increase faster from the latter if thu-
country is properly advertised. Thougn we have done a good deal towards advertising the Dominion, anyone visiting England can sec how enormously more effectively advertised Canada is _ in the newspapers by direct advertising in them and on the railways, l'robably, too, the visit Of the officers of the fleet to llotorna might be made the occasion of inviting prominent Australians. Thatwould give further distinction to the event." Dr. Findlay said that no doubt his suggestion came partly within the functions of the Auckland committee, hut he would represent his views to Cabinent. He added that as far as he «ould ascertain, nearly all the northern members favored the proposal that both Houses of Parliament should adjourn in order to take part in the reception of the fleet. On the other hand, several southern members were opposed to the idea.
