MAIL TRAINS IN COLLISION.
A TERRIFIC IMPACT. i'WENTY PASSJSNGEKS INJURED. MIRACUiiOUS ESCAPES. Received April 18, 0.53 a.m. Sydney, April 17. At an early hour this morning the tiisbane mail train crashed into the ;ccond division of the Glen Imics mail vain at Mnrrundindi. Fur some unexplained reason, the two trains met on one set of rails. 'l'he (lien limes train was just moving out as the Brisbane mail came in. The former train was drawn by two engines, and the colliding trains came together with a tcrriiie impact, one locomotive being shot on top of the other. The itlcn limes train, which had few pas scngers, most. The first car was considerably wrecked and all the occupants more or less injured. Two compartments of the first ear on the Brisbane mail were stove in, and the passengers hurt.
A force of infantry hound to an encampment rendered great service ill extricating the injured. The night, was pitch dark, and it took sonic time to get the injured people out of the wreckage. None of the passengers were killed, but the drivers and firemen had a marvellous escape. Twenty passengers were injured, two seriously. One man had his right arm and both legs broken, another had both legs broken, and two others had legs broken. The rest were cut and bruised.
