SBCOGMTIOX OF MRS. DOCKKILL S SERVICES. Although the attendance at yesterd»y's meeting was not very large, still ike twenty-five people present ri-jiie-tented nearly all the lotal institutions •which owe a deep debt of gratitude tu Air*. E. Dockrill, (or services rendered by her in their behalf during her lengfuy term as Mayoress of New I'lvmouth. Ihe»c were representative niemliers present of all the churches, the New i'lvmouth and Fitzroy Fire Brigades, Tariinaki Rifles, Star Football Club, Recreation Sports Ground, Uo&pital ltoard. Borough Council, and others. Mr. c. E. BeUringer, the convener, was voted to the chair, and in addressing the meeting ■lid that alter consulting with others who held the same Opinion as hiuwlt, that it would be a reflection upon the burgesses if this occasion were allowed to pass, he had called this meeting to take steps to express the burgesses' high : esteem of Mra. Dockrill, and of the value of her public services. He-thought the people would be unanimous in according her their highest sense of respect and gratitude, and, although this meetiig ] tu not a Urge one, they would find , that the people would endorse any ac- , Uon taken in the direction indicated. He read apologies from Mrs. Standisli, i Mrs. E. M. Smith, Mrs. O'Driscoll, Messrs I. W. G. Malone, J. Elliot, J. l'aton, and ' W. A. Collis. r
Mr. G. Tiseh endorsed the Cli.iirniun'i remarka. An chairman of the Hospital Board, and as member of the Borough Council and the Technical School Cum mittee. he had experience of Mrs. DotkriU's willing and capable assistance. He moved that gome public recognition be made of the services of Mrs. Dockrill a Mayoress during 7'/, years. It was needless, he said, to enumerate the societies which had received valuable assistance at her hands. Mr. McDiarmid seconded. lie stated j that Mrs. Dockrill had been a most j active and energetic worker in everything she took in hand. The motion was carried unanimous!*
Mr. TUch moved that all present form Ihemselves into a committee to further the object » Mr. F. Bellringer seconded- He remarked that he been instructed bv the Fire Brigade to attend the meeting Ukd to offer the services of the members in assisting in the movement, whatever form it might take. The brigade valued Very highly the services of Mr-. Dockrill and her ladies' committee. Tiie Hospital Board also desired to express ! Its appreciation of the eHorts j fin connection with Hospital Saturday ' and Sunday. He was sure the matter ffttnld be taken up enthusiastically. Mr. A. Weller aafced if it were intended to confine the movement to the borough. Mr*. Dockrili bad Lot iku» confined her kindness or her work, bui the suburban residents had experienced benefit. Speaking partieuiarh of Fi-z----n>y, he said that the Mayoress had worked ju*t as hard for Fitzroy Fire Brigade as lor the town Brigade, and fee felt sure that the suburban re*idenu would like to take a hand in this appropriate recognition of her work. The Chairman said it was intended that this affair should be public, not merely confined to the borough. Mr. Weller uid he was glad to hear that. Mrs. Dockrili set an example of which not only New Plymouth but tne Dominion should feel proud, for ?he •tood out a* a shining light in the"tapaatj of a whole hearted servant of the public, and many outside New Plymonth would deem it an honour, not Only a duty, to take part in this movement

It wag decided to open Subscript ion rata, and that the lortn of the acknowledgment of Mrs. Dockrill's serjrfces should be decided on at a later date. The following executive was appointed:—The Chairman (Mr. C. EBeilringer), swretarv (Mr. i'{ um . phries), treasurer (Mr. X. K. McDlar Old),and Mesdames Richards, Jurv F. E Clarke, H. Okey, F. C. Griffiths! V. 0. Wins, and Misses C'ollis and Nicholls. '•A subscription list was opeivd in the room, and filled well. It was decided not to limit the amount of the subscriptions.
