RUIN OF KENT HOP INDUSTRY
AMERICAN HOPS DUMPED IN ENGLAND. Received April 15, 11.40 p ni. London, April 15. Mr. Gilbert Parker, ill the House of Commons, directed attention to the riiiu of the Kent hop industry by the dumping of 8000 tons of American hops in the United Kingdom in a few weeKs. Mr. D. Lloyd-George deprecated exaggeration, and attributed the dillifulties of the British industry largely to the development of labour-saving machinery and the rise of hop substitutes. He jocularly suggested that the brewers might show their patriotism by only using British hops. He said lie would await the result of a special Commission of Inquiry.
