THOUGHTS ON BUSINESS.
That the business man of the future will be an improvement on the business man of to-day is a postulate that Wfl must grant to the spirit of progress. Let us consider some of the ways in which he will excel.
The future business man will b e a combination of the scholar, the idealist, and the business executive of to-day. He will have all the practical ability, energy, calm judgment, and knowledge of men and conditions which characterise the business man of to-day. He will also have the ability to perceive Hie immediate needs of the world and supply them on a commercial basis. To this equipment he will add the' logical 'methods of the scholar, the power to analyse and classify, to consider problems and elements in the abstract, to trace conditions back to hidden causes, to reason from principles, and to utilise the processes of thought which enable the thinker to look beneath the surface and discover the operation of forces hitherto unknown. And to this dual knowledge—now so largely distributed to two distinct types of men—he will add a third—an clement of altruistic ideali-m. His plans will include a greater concern for the common good than to those of the business man of today.
With this triple equipment the business man of the future—near or remote —will produce results which will surpass those of the present in character extent, and wholesome effectiveness.
