SHIPPING RATES.

EVIDENCE BEFORE A ROifAL COMMISSION.

Received 2nd, D.58 p.m. London, April 2. Mr. Sanderson, manager of the White Star Company, testified to the Royal Commission in regard to shipping rings, that the preferential rates for American goods shipped to New York and Australia, via Liverpool were due to the fact that the different interests were mutually nVuting for a direct service between New°York and Australia, and also due to the companies being unable to come to an agreement. A strong point shippers were in favor of was the tendency to increase the size of vessels, and the rates were gradually lowered in orjjer to draw cargoes from the sailing Vessels.
