ARBITRATION COURT.

The Arbitration Court opened here today. About twenty breaches of various awards are set down for hearing; also a couple of compensation cases T. Harvie (laundry proprietor) was lined £lO and costs for a, breach of the drivers' award in employing a youth as a driver who had not attained the stipulated age The Court held that the breach had been deliberate The Court was engaged nearly all the morning hearing an alleged, breach of the flaxmillers' award, George Craw being charged with deducting 15s per week from men for board and lodgings. The maximum amount under the award is 14s. The defence was that the catering business was the property of the cook at the mill, who paid Craw £3 per week lor the use of the premises; and further that 15s was for board and lodging, wiiereas the 14s under the award was for hoard only. Decision was reserved.

An application for the reopening of the Wellington typographical award in regard to the clause affecting the hours of "Simplex" operators was refused. A case against Bevan and McDonald, flaxinillers, for a breach of the award in respect to paying wages weekly or fortnightly was dismissed, as was a case iigainst the Manawatu Fibre Company, for alleged wrongful dismissal.
