EMPLOYER SENT TO PRISON.

REFUSES TO PAI BACK WAGES. INDIGNATION MEETING. Per Press Association. Auckland, Last Night, A largely-attended public meeting win held ia the Drury Hall on Ist April to express sympathy with Mr. W. Dixon, who has been committed to Mount Eden gaol for two months for disobeying un order of the Magistrate's Court' arising from an Arbitration Court award; ulsj to express indignation that a freeborn citizen of the British Empire and of the Dominion of .New Zealand sliould be hauled off to prison for such a cause. It seems that last May Mr. Dixon was cited before the Court' for employing a man under award wages. The man was allowed to give evidence upon oath, while Dixon (the employer), although he requested to lie sworn, was not allowed to give evidence, though he savs he had a good defence. He was fin'-d .Co, which was paid. The man was lined 10s. The man then sued and got judgment for £2l back wages, which .Mr. Dixon refused to pay, hence his imprisonment.

The meeting appointed Mr. J. Flanagan to see a solicitor, in order that some proceedings may be taken to procure Mr. Dixon's release, and, if possible, reopen the case.

Another meeting will be ],eld on Saturday evening.
