CHARGE AGAINST A CANON.
ALLEGED SERIOUS MISCONDUCT. London, March 21). Archbishop Clarke, of Melbourne, claims that lie has obtained evidence of serious misconduct which he considers justifies him iu maintaining his refusal to grant Canon Nash a license for Christ Church, Gecloiig. Replying to an interviewer, tho Archbishop said that, as Geelong was tile diocesan educational centre, it became specially necessary that the incumbent of Christ Church should be a man of robust moral strength.
An effort has recently been made to. prove Canon Nash innocent. Mr. J. Faulkner, of Geelong, was sent to England by sympathisers to investigate the charges of misconduct. He statos that he has not been able to find a trace of anything to justify a charge of any kind against Mr. Nash. Dr. Moule I Bishop of Durham, has informed Mr! Faulkner that he cannot recall • the i source of his statement to the Archbishop of Sydney in regard to misconduct on the part of Mr. Nash. He accepted the writer's bona fides at the time, but must now consider the statement as based on rumor. Mr, Faulkner has not seen Canon Bardsley, who was vicar at Huddersfleld when Mr. Nash was curate there. Canon Bardsley has given other details of great gravity respecting an incident which happened 111 his <Bardsley's) family. This incident, Mr. Bardsley states, led to Nash's expulsion from the vicarage and to his (Bardsley's) intervention to prevent Mr Nash's promotion.
