AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE.
AN EXPERT'S OPINION. London, March 24. The Times' military correspondent in an article headed "Armed Australia," recommends the Commonwealth, in the event of Mr. Deakin's plan being accepted, to devote her best efforts to the provision of a highly educated body of officers, a solid permanent staff, and the best system of field artillery. This authority declares that, if Mr. Deakin's scheme is passed, it will giw the Motherland a lead which she has badly wanted.
