In reference to a statement by tho Argus that Leiteh, emphatically denies that the company offered to donate the fine, the Star says that the manager, when interviewed on the question last night, said that he knew nothing of the matter, but had heard that the Union had been informed by Mr, J. A. McCullough that this would be done, he presumed, before that decision was communicated .by the directors in Christchurch to Mr. McCullougll. The miners | are very emphatic in asserting that SHich an offer was made and desired that it. should be made public. The Greymouth Star says that the company's offer to tho Union was contained in tho following telegram:— "Chairman of directors is willing to contribute half amount of fine providing matter settled forthwith. McCullough." The State mines voted £SO and £2O weekly to assist the winers.
