LORD DUDLEY APPOINTED. * Received 20th, 10.45 p.m. London, March 20It is officially announced that Lord Dudley succeeds Lord Northcote as Go-vernor-Genera! of Australia. It is understood that lie sails in August. PRESS OPINION. Received 20th, 10.35 p.m. London, March 20. The Daily Chronicle says that Lord Dudley's appointment is an excellent \ one. His pergonal sporting qualities, sympathy, good sense and judgment will render him popular. Tlie Times compliments Lord Northcote's tact, wisdom and dignity. The appointment of Lord Dudley, who held one of the highest offices in the State, is intended as n compliment to the Coim tyionwenlth. Lord Dudley possesses some obvious qualifications, besides personal attraction. He has travelled much and knows many parts of the Empire. He fought in South Africa, and is a great lover of sport. The social influence of his gracious wife will, the paper adds, be appreciated in Australia.
