THE AMERICAN FLEET.
ITS VISIT TO AUSTRALIA. Received 19th, 12.21 a.m. Melbourne, March 18. Senator West, in reply to a question in the. Senate, said that'it was most unusual for a President to leave the United States. He feared it would be useless to invite President Roosevelt to visit Australia. As to some of the British e fleet being represented, the invitation to y the American fleet was forwarded j- through the Imperial authorities. No ,r doubt tliey would recognise the full im- ,« portance" of the matter.
