ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
PRISONER'S ATTEMPTED SUICIDE

Palmcrstou N., Last Night. Shortly after 10 o'clock this morning some sensation was mused at the police station by the discovery that a prisoner named Edward Jones, alias Johns, who was yesterday convicted lor assault on a little girl at Ashhurst, had attempted to out his throat. The man was in the prisoner's yard with six other prisoners and when found was kneeling down and Weeding at the throat. The wound was caused' by a piece of tin about two inches in length. Medical aid was called and the man was taken to the hospital, where it was'fotiud that the injuries were not serious, and he is progressing satisfactorily. The affair was announced in the Supreme Court, where the prisoner was supposed to be brought up for sentence, and Mr Justice Cooper remanded the prisoner for a week, also directing that an examination as to his mental faculties be held.
