THE DAIRY SCHOOL.

PALMERSTON SITE SELECTED. Per Press Association. Wellington, Monday. Cabinet has decided to locate the dairy school for the North Island at Paliiiei'ston North, on the land offered by the Agricultural Association iu its show-grounds. The offer carries with it the right to 43 acres presented by the borough as an endowment. Another endowment, from which some £3OOO lias already accumulated, is an area of 90 acres at Waiinate, Taranaki.

The school will be iu charge of Mr. W. M. Singleton, Acting Dairy Commissioner.

The other sites considered were at Hawera, Stratford, Feilding, and Levin. Palmerston's accessibility and the fact of accommodation for pupils being available in the town weighed with the Government in making its choice.

At the station lie was met by a- large number of representatives of local organisations and residents, who expressed the gratification felt at Palmerston being selected as the site for the dairy school. The Premier, replying, said that Cabinet, in arriving at this decision, eliminated all offers of land and money, and sought to confer, in the question of site, the' greatest benefit upon the dairying community as a whole. Men of experience all the world oyer had selected towns as sites for dairy schools, and he thought Palmerston North especially favorable for the assemblage of the dairying community, apart altogether from the students at the school. A Levin correspondent states that many Levin citizens are indignant at the decision of the Cabinet in placing the dairy school at Palmerston North", not so limi'li because they think Palmerston unsuitable, but. because the school was promised to Levin by the late Mr. Reddon before the matter came into genenl discussion.
