TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa.") Opunakc races to-inorrow. The acceptances for the Taraiuki autumn meeting, ap|ieariug in to-day's issue, are a decided improvement on last year's figures, and although several of the top-weights have pulled out, there is ample material left iu to ensure a successful meeting. To 6how that the club is making headway it is only necessary to peruse the following table of nominations and acceptances lor the autumn fixtures of the last three seasons: —

1906 .. 7li nominations 3'J acceptances IUO7 .. IW nominations 53 acceptances 1008 .. 1)1 nominations OB acceptances This year's figures are very satisfactory, representing an acceptance of 72-5 per cent, of tae nominations. The most notable withdrawals are J. l'rosser's team, Tangimoaua, Armistice, and Advocate from the Cup, Multifid and Lucrecc from the Flying, and Immolation and Aorangi from the Hurdles. The Taranaki Cup field is reduced ij ten as against seven last year. The Eginont Cup-winner Mahuta now holds the place of honor. Then come such sterling performers as Uhlaudo,; the Hawkes Bay pair, Uazeley and Downtall; Scotty, who ran last year; the exhack Dear Dolly; Starina, who has been off the scene for a long while; Cyrene, a winner last week at Dannevirke; the Foxton Cup-winner Signer, and, last o-i the card, Wee Trinket, who lias come on a lot siucc she defeated Somali at the Waihi meeting. The issue is decidedly open, and i will have an opportunity of commenting on the acceptances at a later date. The smallest field on the card is that of the Flying Handicap. All is not well with Multifid, and Rangipapa ricked his shoulder at Woodville. Taitoko had an argument with, a post at Wanganui, and in consequence is lame. Cyreie has been paid up lor in the Cup anl Stewards' Handicap.

The Hurdles have drawn a decent Held of ten, which is au improvement on six in 1!K)7.

Moriarty has dropped his Stewards' Handicap engagement in favor of tin Flying, in which event the son of Merriwee lias 71b less to cany. Finery heads the list of nine in the Stewards'. This race only drew five last year. That good horse Irish Kitle has taken on a load in the Welter. Then comes Silver Shell with 9st 121b. Mr, Sid. Pitt's much-raced little mare won with Bst 31b in 1907. Le Beau, Immolation, Are Light, Daisy Paul, Climax, Gleam, and lseult swell the field to nine, as compared with six last season. . The hack events have filled splendidly, the Pukaka Handicap drawing thirteen and the Kaitake Handicap nine acI ceptors, while the Scurry and Flutter are filled with fifteen entries apiece.

Applications for bookmakers' licenses will be received up to 12 noon on Tuesday, 17th March.

The Auckland horses engaged at the Taranaki meeting are Scotty, Le Beau, and English. Mr. T. H. Lowry is sending over Downfall and Finery, and Mr. E. i. Watt will lie represented by Gazeley and Arc Light, who now carries the well-known "blue jacket, white waistcoat, collar, and cuffs." Mr. T. O'Neill has sold Daisy Paul to Mr. J. Bull, who races Belario ani Mahoe. The price is mentioned as within the neighborhood of three hundred quid. Mr. T. O'Xeill has nominated his only horse in training, Eclogue (Sylvia Park —Epilogue), for the Scurry and Flutter. He has a fine promising lot of two-year-olds at Hawcra.

The Puketori Hurdle Pvacc mentioned in the Taranaki acceptances should probably read "Kawaroa Hurdles." fn the oflicial programme the Puketori Hurdles is set down for decision on the second day.
