THAW AND HIS WIFE.

THE DIVORCE PROCEEDINGS.

! New York, March 13. New York newspapers state that Mrs Evelyn Thaw is to receive from the JTnaw family a lump sum of £IO,OOO and aa annuity of £3OOO.

Harry Thaw, the murderer of Stanlord White, has been under the public gase for quite a long while, and now he I* to get further publicity. The ground \ i the action of the divorce is peculiar—that lie was insane at the time of his marriage. Many people will think, after reading the record of his wife's past, that he was indeed mad to marry her; but it is an odd bit of irony that she should be the person to bring this madBess up against him. In view of this latest development of the case, the following items from the evidence given in the Thaw trial in New York on January B7 last are especially interesting. During a visit to London Thaw's condition was such as to necessitate his removal to a nursing home. Dr. Sydney Russell UTells, who was called to attend him, told the court that Thaw suffered from delusions, and was evidently a victim of acute mania. Thaw was actually Insane for six days while in the home. Dr. Frederick Burton-Browne, an English physician, who attended Thaw in the home in 1902. testified that he suffered at that time from mild mania. The attack continued for a day and a-half. Dr. M. Gauja, of Paris, described a fit of tuicidal mania while in Paris four y..irago. Thaw tried to commit suicide l>y taking laudanum. A I'itt-burg pliy-i----cian who attended Thaw iu hi- infamy testified regarding hi* exces-ivo nervousness. Thaw's elaborate effort in building up a plea of insanity has dune him a double service—it ha* saved his neck and will rid him of the woman for who-e Bike he committed the murder.—Exchange.
