ATHLETICS
Per Press Association. Auckland, Saturday Night. During .tlio pa-it two days, rain lias fallen here, and it continued heavily this afternoon. Consequently, all cricket matches and other athletic fixtures wei'e postponed. A. E. Keif, the English professional, who has been acting as coach here for the past.two seasons, left on his return to England to-day, via Wellington. It is stated that an Australian professional cricketer will lie imported to New Zealand next season.
The visit <if the English footballers is 1n... ' '->rw:>"<' ( n |,„ r „ w : . ...„„1, j„ter. e*t. In football circles here, however, the general opinion is that one test will not Ik' at all satisfactory, especially if England should happen to win. Three tests at least are advocated. Even if tile reputed best men could not play ill all three, it would give others a chance to distinguish themselves, while we could put to the test the arguments used when the All Blacks went Home that there was a team almost as good, if not equal, to that sent Home, still in the colony. Tests could lie substituted for the two Island matches. The local Union will probably discuss the matter during the week.
