FIRE BRIGADES' CONFERENCE

Masterton, Last Night. All the delegates (about DO) have arrived to attend the Fire Brigades' Association Conference. The annual report of the executive committee states that the finances, though not in as flourishing a condition as last year, are nevertheless sound. The balance of assets over liabilities amounts to £l7O Us 2d. This show a reduction of a little over £2OOO as compared with the credit last yflar, but this reduction is due to the great expenditure in travelling expenses in connection with the demonstration at Christchurch last year. The membership roll now numbers 104, and during the year the Featherston (Wairarapa) and_ Islington brigades joined the Asso< ciation. The accident society fund is in a splendid position. During the year claims amounting to £9B Ss have been paid, which includes a liability of £l2 from the previous year. The general expenses amounted to £32 5s Od, including a »um of '£lls for printing, an account extending over several years. The balance of assets over liabilities is £I3M 0s Cd, an increase over last year of £153 10s sd, wHiieh, considering the rebates now extended to a number of brigades, demonstrated the solid position of the society. Since the last conference gold stars for twenty-flve years' service have been forwarded for presentation io J. McConnochic (Queenstown), R Price (South Dunedin), and S.
