TE ORANGA HOME INQUIRY.
Per Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The principal witness at the Te Oranga Home enquiry to-day was Miss - Margaret Early, who recently resigned from the position of matron of the Sa- ' maritan Home in I'hrishchureli. Her evidence dealt entirely with the action taken by the matron of the Te Oranga Home (Mrs. Branting) to get the custody of a girl who had been lodged in the" Samaritan Home for a year. Miss Early protested against the girl being returned to Te Oranga, and she was suspended for declining to cany out the instructions of the then chairman to facilitate the transfer. Miss Early said that it had been arranged to send the girl to a suitable situation, and she considered that the transfer would not be in her best interests. Another witness, Nurse Morris, fornierlv of the Samaritan Home, said that the girl had a horror of Te Oranga. She was very much to learn that the matron bad received letters emu-bed in most affectionate terms from the girl. The enquiry adjourned till Monday next.
