Gelding moved an amendinent declaring that the high price was due to natural causes and the negiect oi British resources. He expressed the opinion that a re arrangement of the duties on food products with a view to encouraging agriculture at Home, giving preference to the colonies and stimulating the product ire power of the Empire, was desirable. He censured the Government for refusing to stimulate the production of wheat within the Empire by granting the colonies pretcreiHC Mr. Lloyd-George, president of the Board of Trade, said Germany was supplying a sufficient warning against the adoption of the amendment.
