SOUTHLAND REGATTA.
Per Press Assuciatiun. Invercargill, Last Night. Tlw principal item oi interest m tin local regatta to-day was tlie Interprovincial Fours for the Edmonds Challenge Shield, which has been held by .Southland for about live years. The Otago crew—Maudes, Hutchison, i'aton, and Whittaker (stroke) was considered likely, but had no chance with Campbell, Johnson, Drown, and Rasstian, tlu last three of whom have been in the winning crew for some years. The Southland men. rowing well within themselves, took a gradual lead, and held it, winning comfortably by about a length and a-half. The Junior Fours was won by Invercargill Rowing Club, Fort Chalmers second and North End (Dnnedin) third. Fort Chalmers won the Youths' Four.-., Railway second, and Invercargill third. The Maiden Pairs went to Otago Rowing Club. Inwrairgill won the Junior Pairs, Railway second, and Otago Rowing Club third. The Senior Fours resulted: Port Chalmers 1, Invercargill 2, Otago Rowing Club 3. In this race Invercargill ("the same crew that won the interprovincial race), when a mile from home, touched shoal wale]-, and Johnson's our was broken by striking a bank. They had about a three-lengths lead, but had no further chance, and Port Chalmers gradually crept up and won by about five lengths. The Maiden Fours resulted: Fort Chalmers 1. Railway 2 and 3. The Senior Doubles was won by fnvereargill. with Poll Chalmers second. The Maiden Doubles resulted: Port Chalmers 1. Invercargill 2. Senior Pairs: Inverfiirgill 1. Port Chalmers i.
