A CHARGE WITHDRAWN. Christi-hurch, Saturday Night. Francis Henry Bruges, formerly a Christehurch solicitor, on remand, was charged in the Police Court this, morning on the information of William Edward Brown, of Sprinpjburn, of converting moneys vested in him as trustee to his own use, and with having been accessory to the theft of moneys by one James Goodman. Mr. V. G. Day was on the Bench. Detective Bishop said that the case had been remanded a fortnight ago in order to give the police an opportunity to make further enquiries. In the meantime, the papers in the ease had been submitted to the Crown law officers in Wellington, with the result that the police had been advised to take no further action in the matter. His Worship said that either one of the 'two things had occurred; either the /koliee had been badly advised when Ithey undertook" thV prosecution, or ' ■ ■ been misused. It appeared to him (and would probably so appear to most people), that either the persons who laid the charges had not proper grounds for doing so, or what the charges were laid with the intention of recovering monies by criminal process, which they could not have- obtained bv civil process.
