TIMBER WORKERS' DISPUTE.

AMICABLE SETTLEMENT IX SIGHT. Received Feb. 17, 11.53 p.m. Sydney, February 17. After it conference of the Timber .Merchants' Association and a deputation of strikers and representatives of oilier unions interested, the announcement was oilicially made that there are good prospects of un immediate settlement of the trouble. A further conference will take place to-morrow, when it is understood a proposal is to be made tn submit the trouble to arbitration, each side appointing a representative with the umpire. All the Newcastle collieries are working to-day, consequently the special court has resumed its sittings.
