ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
SUDDEN DEATH. l'er Press Association. Wellington, Saturday. Mr. Owen McArdle, of Wellington, manager of Staples and (Jo.'s brewery business, was taken suddenly ill at Masterton yesterday, and died at 8 o'clock this morning. It is believed that lie suffered ix stroke of apoplexy, FATAL BURNJMi AUJIDKNT. Auckland, Last JSiglit. A burning accident which resulted fatally occurred last evening. A woman named Mrs. Elizabeth Mack, wife of a fisherman, 33 years of age, broke a kerosene lamp, and the oil ran on the floor. She lit a candle, and was wiping up 'the kerosene from the floor when the cloth came in contact with the lighted canule. A ilame immediately shot up and enveloped the woman. Her husband went to her assistance, but the unfortunate woman was very terribly burned before the llames were extinguished, arid tile husband's hands were burned, as were also those of two other men who assisted. _ Mrs. Black was taken to the hospital in a critical condition, but did not survive long, dying this morning.
DliOWi*li\ r U FATALITY. Dunedin, Last Kight. A drowning accident occurred at Dunedin wharf shortly after 1 o'clock this morning, the victim being a man about 45 years of age, whose body lias not yet been identified. Deceased was shown on board the Corinna by a wharf laborer about 11 o'clock last night. Early this morning the Union Company's nightwatchman heard a splash in the water, and he and another man threw deceased a rope. Deceased was pulled ashore and medical aid sent lor, but when the doctor arrived deceased had expired.
