| TURF TURK'S. I (By "Moturoa.") Takapuna races to-day. ilautupu won the Orewa Hurdles iu good style ou Saturday under the steadier of list, and is apparently very well at present. Celerity, who won the Zealandia Handicap ou the first day at Takapuna, did nul start on \\ i ilne-day, mil will be -sen out in the Borough Handicap to.lay.
j Cranium ran a solid race in the Takai puna, Cup, and seems to have picked up | a hit since the Auckland meeting. Mighty Atom made no race of the second Pony Handicap on Wednesday, and la- followed home by (liiadi'Oon, wlio may do belter later on. Quadroon in a great pony, and should shine over live or six turlongs. Ca-tadritt, au aged gelding by Castor ■mi of a .Musket mare, and probably one ol the last ot the Castors racing, put in a great run at the finish of the Ferry Handicap, and won on the post by half i head, lie was nicely handled by Bell Oeeley, and finished gamely under punishment, impressing the knowing ones iiy his resolute style of galloping. Master Soult, who won each of th; two-year-old races at Takapuna, wan ridden by Hector Gray, and the Solilt colt is said to be a regular llicr.
Tui Cakobau only went under to Lurrece by a head on Wednesday, the dislance being seven furlongs. Tui Cakoiiau led most ot the way. and should be hard to beat over a trille shorter distance. Miss \\ iiinie is about Hie most consistent winner over short courses around Auckland at the present time. Mount Cook made the pace in the Hurdles at Pahiatua on Thursday, but Pantaloon was too last on the flat, and won a good race by half a length. (iolden Eagle was timed to run six furlong* in lmin ljscc when she won the Stewards' Handicap from Gawai-i und Golden Gate, (iolden Eagle led into the straight, and with her light weight, list 71b, just lasted long enough to beat ihe consistent Gawain by a nose. Axite won the Newmarket from end to end, and paid a surprisingly good price. Merrie Zealand will soon run out of hack company. Carrying the eteadier of 9st 131b in the Makuri Handicap, he easily defeated Bonnie Doon, 7st 131b, in lmin 16 3-asec. Merry Zealand won his first race at Martinborough on Boxing Day, and has scored three times since.
As usual, Waipaku tried to win the Pvacing Club Handicap from end to end, but Nova got up in the last few strides and won by a neck. Aberration was half a length away, third. Te Kuiti had had luck to lose the Mangahao Welter, only the splendid horsemanship of F. Jones enabling Nitchcvo to win by a neck after a great set-to over the last quarter of a mile. Blue Bell, who won the Scurry in a canter, is a four-year-old by Conqueror, and is trained by J. Lowe at Trentham. Rangihaetu made amends for his defeat at Foxton by running off with the Grandstand Welter, beating Silver Shell in the run home by half a length. The Pahiatua stewards questioned the niiining of Mikotahi in the Mangahao Welter and Splendid Idea in the Stewards' Handicap, but after hearing the owners' explanations no action was taken.
