Mr E. ltawsun, Clerk of the Court at
Masterton, has been appointed S.M. and Warden at Wcstport. There will now be three magistrates in Westland. Mr Turton, of Oamaru, goes to Clreymouth. As formerly announced, Mr T. Hutchison, formerly of New Plymouth, will go to Oamaru.
The Premier will leave for Auckland on Thursday, and will attend the banquet to Mr. A. Kidd, M.P., on Friday night. Sir Joseph Ward returns to Wellington on Monday evening,—Press wire.

A cable received from Sydney last night reads:—"A private letter states that the late Mr. John Wilkin, manager of the Cliristcnivrch Press, who died in Paris after a painful illness, was cremated. His remains are on the way 1.0 New Zealand for interment. The family I lias sailed from Marseilles by the Mooltan, which is due on the 10th instant."
Miss Shaw, a native of Thames, at present resident in Auckland, recently passed the examination as an Associate member of the Institute of Accountants. Not only did she come out at the head list, but she is the first lady in to obtain a similar status. teacher
