DUNDONALD SURVIVORS' RELIEF.

Per Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. The Mayor, Mr London, states in answer to Mr Russell's strictures on the Shipwreck Relief Society, that the Society sent £32 of its own funds to the BlulF, on December 3rd, the day after word was received. The money from the Exhibition relics was held ill trust for the survivors, to be forwarded when the addresses are known. There is no Government subsidy on the amount collected. The Government subsidy only holds up to the maximum revenue, £2OO, which the Society has from outside collection The delay in answering wires from Mr Russell was caused by the absence of the secretary from Dunefor the Christmas holidays. The Society benefited in no way; on the contrary, they have expended £32 and expense, while still holding £lB for distribution to the survivors when located.

A very serious, case of broachinc cargo was brought to light at Lyttelton yesterday, and the prompt action of the police and the Customs officials resulted in the arrest of seven firemen belonging to the steamer Papanui on a charge of stealing from cases in the steamer's hold a, large quantity of goods, valued at over £fif). The men appeared before the Magistrate's Court to-dav, and were remanded till February sth.'

COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. Tnvereargill, Last Night. John Lloyd, manager of the Nightcaps coal mine., was committed for trial today on a manslaughter charge arising out of the recent mine disaster.

RTSE IN PRICE OF MILK. Wellington, Last Night. Milk in Wellington goes up to fivepence per quart, from next- Saturday. The increase is due to the scarcity nf the supply, consequent on the dry weather.
