REGULATIONS FOR BOOKMAKERS' PERMITS.
RACING CONFERENCE DECISION. Per Press Association. Christchurch, L.isfr Night. Regulations for the admission ul bookmakers to racecourses have been issued by the Racing Conference, and ale recommended by all totalisator clubs. The principal regulations provide that the amount of the fee for a bookmaker stall be fixed by each club, but uo club which gives an average of less than £4OO per diem in stakes shall charge a fee exceeding £lO per diem. Bookmakers can only transact business in the enclosure provided. Tote odds are prohibited, also betting after the closing of the totalisator. Betting on doubles is also prohibited.
TIjRF TOPICS. (By ''Jiloturoa"). The Foxton owner, ilr R. S. ilesseua, had a good innings at the Foxton meeiing. On the first day he supplied the winner and runner-up in the Flying Handicap, \Vaicola and Jiotoa respectively, and rtaipaku was only narrowly beaten for firet honors in the Cup. On the second day the big money came his way, Waitapu winning comfortably from Aberration, with ilessena's Waicola in third place, and Motoa won the Newmarket Handicap in good style. Highden, by Mciiwce—Balm, who was ollcred by auction at the Foxton meeting, was passed in at 48 guineas.
lord Soult had the services of Sid. Reid in the Newniantet Handicap, and curried a lot of money, but after beginning quickly he faded right out of the contest.
Kareroa made no race of the Electric Handicap, Roselethe just gaining second position How. Golden Eagle in the last
bit. Waipaku tried to win the Foxtou Cup from end to cud and going along the back got a big break on the field. Swinging into Ike straight with a substantial lead the race looked all over and McKay was taking thing* easy when Signor, who had come irom the rear with a well-sustained run, caught Waipaku on the post and won by a sho;t neck.
The Trial Handicap was responsible for a great finish, Seaton Dale just lasting long enough to gain a head vic< tory from Reuben, with First Mate a head away third.
Flingot was made the medium of "a plunge" in the Awahou Welter, and streaking out on his own three furlongs from home the sou of Musketry was never afterwards troubled.
U'aicola had no dilneulty in beating stable-mate Mutoa in the Flying, Toa lulu, who came very fast in the straight, being close up third. 'Charley'' Cochrane got lariua out well in the Dash HacK Handicap, and leading into the straight just lasted long enough to beat the fast-finishing donates, who was a hot favorite, by a neck.
Larissima was a very warm order in the Herringtou Welter, and was early in the lead, out inn out a bit wide in the turn from home, allowing Probability to steal up on the rails, in a great luiitih Probability just scraped home by a head from Carissiuia and Kaugihaeta, who dead-heated lor second place.
Mt. Cook won the Second Hurdles in good style from Musseu and Xavier, iho latter making up a lot of ground in Hie straight, and going ianter at the liiiisk than anytlung else in the race. Carissiuia ran last in the January Hack Race, Dear Dolly winning all the way. Waitapu, not Waipaku, as wired through on the list of acceptors, had no difficulty in winning the President's Handicap from Aberration and Waieola. in the Carnarvon iiack Welter Loirct got the better of Prince Hassan in ail exciting finish, and won by a neck; Oryx was the same distance away third. Mikotahi was close up fourth and Scenery fifth.
Reuben, by Mahaki—Denbigh, made amends for his defeat on the first day by winning the Maiden Scurry in good style from liuuiiie. Doun and San LassMoutoa and Supplement had the lhiisk uf the Newmarket Handicap to themselves. Moutoa caught the local sprinter in the straight and won by a bare length.
Maid of Astolat was badly left in the Telephone Ha«k Race, and Dear Dolly made most of the running, and won easily. Maid of Afitolat ran into second place, just in front of Golden Eagle. The concluding event, the Moutoa Handicap, resulted in a splendid race between the placed horses, Lady Disdain winning after a fine set-to with j The Stake, by half a length, Kosw! grove was a neck-away third. The Foxton Club put through the machine the sum of £15,109 on the two days, as against £12,794 last year, an I increase of £2315.
