PETROLEUM AS A PREVENTIVE. At the Borough Council meeting last night ilr. A. H. Kendall, borough engineer, reported as follows:—I bog to further report, in accordance with a previous instruction, on the advisability of taking a tost of the use of petroleum on the streets for the purpose of keeping down the dust. Other mediums have bean found to give satisfaction in this direction. At the time T reported on petroleum I was unfortunately too busy to further report, as [ wished, on those methods that may 1* employed in com! batting this perennial nui-anoo and danger to public health during dry weather The dust preventative which at the present time finds most favor is tar, and it 9 superiority as a binding medium is only now being recognised <n the larger Home centres, w |,ile most otlioi preparations are only regarded as palli i atives of the evil.
