TIMELY INTERVENTION BY THE THE GOVERNMENT.

Per Press Association. Westport, Last Night. Ihe conference between th e Premier and Hon. J. A. Millar, the miners' delegates and the Westport Coal Company's manager, concluded this afternoon with a final settlement of the bank-to-bank difficulty. Clause 10 of the award (providing for nominal overtime) is abolished, and new clauses substituted, providing for a travelling time allowance—--48 minutes for the Ironbridge mine, and 30 minutes for the Coalbrookdale.' The new agreement has been signed. Sir Joseph Ward and the Hon. J A. Millar leave for Wellington by the Tutanekai I this afternoon.
