A Dunedin wire states that the Minister of Labor, acting under instructions from the Premier, cancelled all Southern engagements and left for Christchurch by tlie second express yesterday afternoon, en route'for Wcstport. The reappointment of Mr. Charles Ijouisson, of Christchurch, to the Legislative Council is gazetted.
The Kev. E, Ward, who has been acting as vicar at Christ Church during tne jiast year, and who is leaving for (iislwrnc district, was presented by the parishioners at Wangauni last night with a purse of sovereigns and an address. The young men's club presented him with n combination clock, barometer, ami thermometer, also an illuminated address.—Press wire.
At the South road Methodist schoolroom last night Air Charles Morshead was entertained at a social and presented with a handsomely bound volume of organ selections in appreciation of his valuable services for some time past as organist.
At its meeting last night, the Victoria College Council appointed Mr James Adamson, M.A., L.L.8., Kdin., to (he position of Dean of the Faculty of Law at the College. At Edinburgh University in 1893-4 he carried off the Muirheail prize, and in 1895-6 was assistant Pro- 1 fossor of Scots Law. Mr Adamson is, 3i years old. He is expected to arrive in Wellington toward the end of March.
