THE NEW GAMING BILL. CONFERENCE OF RACING CLUBS. Per Press Association. Wellington, Thursday. A conference of representatives of racing clubs was held to-day to consider i notice of motion relating to alterations in the rules of racing, arising out of the operation of the new Gaming Act. The president (Sir Geo. Clifford) said il was the duty of racing clubs to conform to the spirit of the Act, which in many ot its details had been drawn up without sufficient regard to the practical working of a race meeting, and he regretted >w sieps had been taken to obtain tlic opinion- of the conference prior to introducing tiic mea-ure. He directed the attention of the fraraers of the Act to this Whangarei Incident. The president stated that he had drawn up a memorandum embodying experiences acquired at the Manawatu, Duncdin, and Christehurcli races in connection with the Act, which might assist members when in committee.
